《木こりのジレンマ》

　あるところに新しい斧を手に入れた木こりがいた。
新しい斧の切れ味は抜群で、買った翌日、木こりは１日目に１０本の木を切り倒すことができた。
それも短時間で。今まで考えられないことだった。
２日目、彼は作業時間を延長し、１５本の木を切り倒した。
３日目、４日目と彼は日を追うごとに懸命に、そして遅い時間まで木を切り続けた。
ところが、日が経つごとに、切り倒す木の数がだんだん少なくなってきた。
彼はたくさんの注文をとっているので、夜中まで一生懸命がんばった。
それでも、日ごとに切り倒す木の数は減っていく。

　見かねた友達が彼にアドバイスした。
「なぜ、刃を研がないんだ。
　刃がぼろぼろになっているのに、研がないから、木が切り倒せないのは当たり前ではないか。」

　彼は答えた。
「俺は、そんなことをしている暇がないくらい、忙しいんだ。
　毎日たくさんの木を切らなければいけないんだ。」
